EXCLUSIVE Interview- Actress Robin Campbell

The Celebutante Sisters are Boston girls at heart. We heart the Red Sox and Patriots and grew up right outside the city. An impressive list of actors and comedians also call Massachusetts home, including Jay Leno, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Eliza Dushku, Ellen Pompeo…and Robin Campbell.

Robin Campbell just wrapped up the political comedy “Below the Beltway” in Washington, D.C. The funny flick stars Tate Donovan, Kip Pardue and Noah Wyle. She’s also writing and directing a new web series about the trials and tribulations of online dating in Manhattan.

Not only is Robin a “wicked awesome” actress, she is an amazing singer and dancer. She has crooned extensively with the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center and even carried a tune with a Beatle in the American premiere of Sir Paul McCartney’s “Ecce Cor Meum”, a tribute to his late wife, at Carnegie Hall.

We are honored to share our EXCLUSIVE interview with actress, singer and dancer Robin Cambell.

When did you don your first pair of dance shoes?

I was three years old when I started ballet lessons, but I was always trying to copy my older sister’s dance moves way before that.

You’re also a singer and an actor. Have the arts always been an
important part of your life?

Definitely. My parents are huge lovers and supporters of the arts, so I had that instilled in me from the start. My brother, sister, and I were always playing piano, singing, and dancing around the house, taking lessons and doing shows, and going to see performances in Boston.

You star in the office-based spoof comedy “The Consultants," currently making its way through the film festival circuit. Can you tell us about your role?

My character is Jamie, who is the head of HR at a consulting firm. She is an ambitious rule-follower until some ethically challenged individuals take over the company. Her crush and co-worker Paul convinces her to join forces with him and some sketchy characters to break a few rules and to attempt to drive the company into the ground.

What was it like working on the set of a comedy? We wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face!

Totally! It was definitely a challenge to keep it together when I was surrounded by such funny people doing funny things. I was so excited to come to set every day.

Next up, you’re slated to appear in the political comedy “Below The Beltway.” Can you tell us what it’s all about…and about the character you’ll be playing?

‘Below the Beltway’ is a dark comedy about the corrupt world of lobbyists in Washington DC. I play an oblivious, perky real estate agent, sort of a comic relief type of character. I show a huge mansion to Tate Donovan and Kip Pardue, who are not actually in the market for a house but instead are just trying to stir up some trouble.

How does it feel knowing you’ll be starring alongside actors like Tate Donovan and Noah Wylie (We used to have a huge crush on him back when ER started!)

Amazing! I didn’t have any scenes with Noah unfortunately (although everyone said he was so gracious, funny, and kind), but working with Tate was so fun. I was a fan of his from “The O.C” and “Friends”. He was completely lovely- warm, charming, funny. I loved working with him.

Congratulations on all your success on stage! Can you describe the
feeling when you are dancing and singing in front of a large audience?

Thank you! There is nothing like performing in front of a live audience, especially an enthusiastic and loud one, like on an opening night, for example. It is so rewarding to get a laugh on a line delivery, or to hear people cheering and clapping when they get
excited about a number. Anything can happen when it’s live theatre! That makes for an exciting and sometimes nerve-racking experience. Mostly exciting, though.

You’ve performed in some very prestigious productions, including the American premiere of Sir Paul McCartney’s “Ecce Cor Meum” at Carnegie Hall, “My Fair Lady" with the New York Philharmonic, starring Kelsey Grammer and Kelli O’Hara at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and the original company of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas”….to name a few. Which one was your favorite…and why?

It’s so hard to choose a favorite! It was so exciting to work with Kelsey Grammer (I grew up watching Frasier), and being part of “White Christmas” from its inception was a thrilling experience. But I have to say that working with Paul McCartney on “Ecce Cor Meum” was nothing I could have ever imagined. The first day of rehearsal when he casually walked into the room with a huge smile, everyone GASPED. I have never seen such hardcore star quality like that before, and honestly, I think every person in the room fell in love with him in that instant. People were giddy! The performance at Carnegie was like a rock concert- people were throwing confetti, screaming, holding up their cell phones and taking pictures. It was madness. That was a serious career highlight for me, and I still cannot believe that I worked with a Beatle!

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to continue to work on inspiring projects with smart and funny people. I would love to continue to do more film and TV, comedy in particular. I’m also currently in pre-production for a new web series I am writing and co-executive producing about the trials and tribulations of online dating in Manhattan. I have a lot of comic and frankly, tragic personal experience on this topic! I’ll let you know when we have the first episode up!
